Text Box: From the Education Desk
Rona Cohen, Education Director
Text Box: Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year at Bet Yeladim! The teachers and children are happily
getting to know each other and developing classroom
routines. This will be an exciting year filled with many opportunities for learning through play, multi-sensory experiences and guided discovery all within a literacy
rich environment. Best of all, this exciting learning will
be within the meaningful and rich world of Judaism!
At Bet Yeladim, we appreciate childhood as a unique and important stage of life. Our philosophy is that our teachers are facilitators, providing an age and
developmentally appropriate and integrated curriculum—building on what the children already know and are
capable of—in a rich, multi-sensory, safe, and nurturing community. This promotes the cognitive and emotional growth of the child, as well as their physical, aesthetic and language development, while being sensitive to the needs of each child and their family.
The New Year of 5768 is almost here! It will begin
on the evening of Wednesday, September 12th with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. For adults, this is a
sacred time to focus on prayer, renewal and new
beginnings. The Yeladim learn that Rosh Hashanah is the
birthday of the world, and enjoy dipping apples or round challah into sweet honey. There are also the wonderful sounds of the Shofar blowing and special holiday songs. The Shofar is part of Yom Kippur, also. This solemn Day of Atonement begins the evening of September 21st.
At Bet Yeladim, we will be learning about sharing good wishes for the New Year, ritual items, giving tzedakah, and being kind people.
